Being a monk, above all, you should have compassion. You even humiliate my physical being, just for your fun, just so that people think that I’m this and that and others. Why do you have to do that? […] I have never done any harm to you or your temple or your reputation. I didn’t even know your name. Many of you – I didn’t know you. […] Then why would you even talk bad about me, gossip untruthfulness about me, slandering me so that people would think I’m bad or my disciples would have less trust in me or leave me? That’s worse than the sin of gossiping and telling lies about me. […] Read the sutras again and avoid doing similar kinds of things to anybody, not just to me. Free, free from everything – from fortune, misfortune, from fame, from bad and good, everything – free, free yourself from all that. Don’t treasure anything in this world as long as you still live here. Then you will be free forever. And you can even help others to be free, like what I am doing right now. […]
Up to now, especially in recent years, I’m not allowed to have anything that gives me pleasure, gives me happiness. Even like having the dog-people with me, or having the bird-people with me, or having any of the good team members with me, stuff like that. Or even tasting good food, rarely. […] But I’m glad to live here, in this place at the moment, because this is a very blessed forest, a very blessed location where I put up my tent – a very highly spiritual treasure. […]
