In today’s news, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides emergency assistance to displaced families in Yemen. More than 80% of UK cities labeled as highly vulnerable to urban heat, Chinese researchers develop a crude oil refining method that could cut energy use by over 90%, microchipped electric cookers help protect health as clean cooking expands in Africa, US toddler’s quick thinking saves mother during home medical emergency, South Korean vegan meat company earns recognition for refusing animal-people testing, and cat-person rescued from landfill after being accidentally discarded with old couch in United States. Here is a useful kitchen cleaning tip to start your day. Microfiber cloths are excellent at picking up dust, dirt, oils, and microscopic debris – but that strength can also become a weakness when the cloth isn’t properly cleaned. Because microfiber is designed to trap tiny particles, a used or old cloth can collect grit and debris that turn it into something resembling fine sandpaper that can leave behind tiny scratches. Heat is another potential problem. Microfiber cloths are made primarily from synthetic fibers, which can melt or fuse together if they are exposed to high temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius (250 degrees Fahrenheit) like a hot stove top or cookware. To keep microfiber cloths effective and prevent them from picking up lint from other fabrics, wash them separately or with other synthetic microfiber materials using cold or warm water and a mild detergent. Dispose of worn or heavily soiled cloths that no longer clean effectively or have accumulated embedded debris.
