René Zografos (vegan) is a passionate Greek-Norwegian journalist, photographer, and author who combines ethical conviction with clear-sighted reporting. In his book “The Ego System: The Awakening,” he reveals the eye-opening truths that changed his life forever. “Because people don’t know all the things that happen because it’s very hidden. The animal industry is very big. They are big advertisers in broadcasting networks all over the world.” “But the first surprise was when I learned that animal agriculture is not only the major reason for deforestation and extinction of animals, but the animal industry also is the biggest polluter on the planet, even bigger than oil and gas. It’s so extreme, what we are doing to nature and to the animals. We lose so much land. And not only ‘we’ – there are supposed to be wildlife there; the ecosystems should be there. And they are protecting us, but we are destroying everything that protects us.”

“There is common knowledge that we are going in the wrong direction, but the will to change seems to be lacking. I was shocked when researching this book because the use of animals and how we treat them was so much worse than I believed, especially in slaughterhouses and factory farms. We must also know that in most factory farms and slaughterhouses, the laws are not followed.” Mr. Zografos explains that cruelty in the animal-people-raising industry affects not only the animal-people but also the humans who carry it out. “It’s similar to people who are in war, who repeatedly have traumas, who have to kill. In war it’s people, but in slaughterhouses it’s animals. But you get the same kind of traumas that will stay with you for the rest of your life.”
